NFL Preview

The temperature is reaching triple digits, and that can only mean on thing-NFL training camp is here. There are a lot of interesting story lines this year-and I'll will try and get to them, but first- some observations from Seattle's pre-season game against Chicago.

1. Justin Forsett is making the team

The seventh round pick out of Cal was great. He gained over 200 all-purpose yards and made a key run in overtime. I really like the way that this kid runs, he doesn't waste time in the backfield, he gets downfield.

2. Brandon Cantu is making the team

He went 4-4 in field goals including the game-winner. This means that...

3. Olindo Mare is not making the team

teams usually carry one kicker-and it won't be Mare

4. Charlie Frye is not the QB that can make Seneca more involved in the receiving game.

He tossed 3 picks was wasn't that good. I'd be surprised if he is on the opening day roster and the 'Hawks will have to keep looking for a veteran QB back-up.

5. TJ Duckett is going to have a hard time making the roster

He has not been that great and Leonard Weaver can be used in short yardage situations -Which make his skill kind of repetitive

6. The Bears QB situation is really that bad.
When Kyle Orton goes 5/9 for 43 yards and won the job because of it-you know that you are in a bad spot

It is now time for my first annul Bold and Controversial statement(s)

1. The Vikings are this year's 49ers-who were the Dolphins of the previous year.

I'm not drinking the Viking Kool-aid like everyone else. They have a shaky quarterback situation and they had the worst pass defense in the NFL last year. Sure they can run the ball and stop the run-but the can't pass the ball or stop the pass.

2. The Patriots aren't making the play-offs.

The Pats have a lot of things not going for them. Their front seven got another year older, They lost their best player in the secondary, teams have started to figure out the Pat's offense, and they don't have enough depth to stop the Superbowl losers curse. There is a reason why Seattle overcame it-they had depth. They had Seneca Wallace as a back-up QB and Mo Maurice and a back-up running back. Who do the Patriots have? Matt Cassel? A guy has taken out of a blow-out so the starter could come back in?

Division winners:

West;

AFC: San Diego Chargers (11-5)

They easily have the most talent of the group and the most play-off experience.
predicted record: (13-3)

NFC: Seattle Seahawks (10-6)

The division is bad, Seattle has a top five defense and a solid veteran QB
predicted record: (13-3)

North:

AFC: Cleveland Browns (10-6)
This pic will depend on the health of Derick Anderson. The Browns have a lot of talent and look build off last year's surprise success.
Predicted record: (11-5)

NFC: Green Bay packers (13-3)
The lost HOF QB Brett Favre in the off-season, but there is a reason last year was his first good year in a while. Green Bay has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and Aaron Rodgers should should have a smooth translation into the starting role
Predicted record (11-5)

East

AFC: New York Jets (4-12)
I already had them winning this division before Brett came, but they have had a busy off-season. They brought some guys to help in the trenches, and this was a play-off team 2 years ago. oh, and I think that Brett will fall victim to the Madden Curse by week 8
Predicted record: (11-5)

NFC: Dallas Cowboys (13-3)
They are a great regular season team and since this is a regular season award-the Cowboys get it
Predicted record: (12-4)

South

AFC: Indianapolis Colts (13-3)
Do I really need to explain this?
predicted record: (14-2)

NFC: New Orleans Saints (7-9)
They were in the NFC Championship 2 years ago and made some big improvements on both sides of the ball with acquisitions of Jonathan Vilma and Jeremy Shockey-both from New York.
Predicted record: (12-4)

Wild Cards:

AFC: Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos

NFC: Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins

Power Ten

1. Giants

2. Colts

3. Patriots

4. Chargers

5. Cowboys

6. Seahawks

7. Packers

8. Jaguars

9. Steelers

10. Browns

Award Predictions:

MVP: Ronnie Brown (RB) (MIA)

This guy was absoulutly amazing before his injury. Don't believe me?

DPOY: Mario Williams (DE) (HOU)

He had a breakout year last year and was one of the biggest snubs from the Pro Bowl. He is going to come out this year and make sure that everyone knows that Houston didn't make a mistake taking him over Reggie Bush

ROY: Darren McFadden (RB) (OAK)

This guy has a lot of skill and is going to be the feature weapon in Oakland.

DROY: Lawrence Jackson (DE) (SEA)

Call me a homer but I think that this guy is going to have a great year. He will get some playing time on the line and he can make a big impact. Plus-he had 31 sacks in "Madden".
