NEW YORK-In a stunning move, David Stern decided it would be better if we didn't continue the play-offs, rather have Los Angeles and Cleveland pitted against each other in the finals.
"We all know that the Lakers and the Cavs will play each other," Stern said in a statement, "why risk on of them loosing a key player?"
Stern said that he got the idea after the Lakers and Rockets series.
"To issues arose from that,' Stern said, 'First off, Yao got hurt, what if Kobe gets hurt against the Nuggets or Lebron gets hurt in Orlando? That would be disastrous. Also, the Lakers almost lost to a Rockets team without their best players. We can't afford for something like that to happen again."
On asked whether or not he expects a backlash from the fans, Stern expected some, but not much.
Obviously, the fans of the Magic and the Nuggets will get upset, but if they really thought about it, they know this is best for the league, and it is not like they had a chance anyway. We're simply cutting to the chase, we are no longer avoiding the inevitable."
"I think most fans want this to happen anyway."
While obviously disappointed, the Magic players remained upbeat.
"While it is disappointing we have to stop playing, you have to understand that this is a business, and Kobe vs LeBron would bring in higher ratings. Plus, now I have time to shoot more McDonalds commercials."
Contrasty, Kenyon Martin was not so understanding.
'Stern is a thug," Martin said on his blog, "He is a bigger thug than that one rich ugly guy in Dallas."
Both Kobe Bryant and LeBron James insisted that they had no involvement in this and were not available for questions.
Regardless, Kobe and Lebron will get set to go at in the finals, a finals match up that Stern destined.
