Shaun Alexander was cut today from the Seahawks. I do have mixed feelings about this. I know this makes sense, he is constantly hurt, he is not very productive, and does not run tough anymore. At the same time it is sad to see him play for anyone else. What he accomplished during his time in Seattle is astounding when you examine it. In his time with Seattle has had over 100 touchdowns and 9,000 yards; the franchise record for both. Shaun was also a great character guy. Although sometimes he did have a big ego, he was always a model citizen and great in the community.

Shaun's decline is not all on him. Management has a lot to do with it. The loss of Steve Hutchinson was possibly the biggest reason for his decline. Steve brought a toughness to the line, and now he has brought it to Minnesota. The Mack Strong injury was also a contributer, but, as with anybody, time will catch up. Shaun's only real strength was running the ball, he was not a pass-catch or a good blocker. When you are a one dimensional back, time seems to catch up quicker because when that skill deteriorates, production takes a huge hit.

Although it is sad to Seattle's greatest running back of all time go, I know it was time. Moving forward was the best thing to do, and I wish Shaun luck on whichever team ends up on.
